So, eccentricity is set in a parallel universe in the year 2013. Pennies is the only one that has the ability to travel among dimensions on her own. The rest of the fenines need their access gate, and that requires a bit of power from the planet to activate.
Their Earth is known as Terran.
Their Manhattan didn't see the horrors of 9/11. But the Twin Towers now get a shadow across them from the Rarnar Tower of Evil.
The World Wars never occurred. The US didn't become stagnant from its own egotism, and managed to excel in everything. There is a separation of church and state, and their president is still a black man. The last president was an Asian woman. And the one before that was a Mexican gay man.
Space is not a dream attainable only by the government and the rich. The Industrial Revolution came and went in the 1800s. The Space Age came and went in the 1900s. Current age involves interdimensional exploration. First contact was reached in 1992, with a species of striking Egyptian qualities, through the first access gate developed by Rarnar Industries. Following that, life was found on Marta (Mars) on an expedition five years later.
Terran lacks religion in the sense of what exists on Earth. There is a sense of collective faith and some form of spirituality, but none like anything that envelopes and consumes the Earth Solar System dimension.
And, despite all odds, somehow Disney managed to buy a planet just past Jupiter and create DisneyPlanet.
Most importantly, world hunger doesn't exist. Capitalism reigns supreme, but not in the same money-grubbing sense as does on Earth. Adam Rarnar may be one of the richest beings on the planet, but he's not seen as a money hoarding maniac. The government trickle down effect actually works. Everything that is put into making Adam a billionaire is returned to the people that contributed to it.
In fact, the only reason there is any conflict is because of people like Adam. People that are career criminals in every legal sense of the law, but governed by a different set of laws. Adam Rarnar is one of the richest criminals on Terran, and still provides jobs for millions of people worldwide. Unlike Earth, which makes every attempt to curb criminal thoughts and behaviors, Terran embraces it.
Murders are almost non-existent. Very very low worldwide percentage. Mostly because it is remotely legal to be evil. To be a criminal. To work for a criminal organization. Every single employee of Rarnar Industries is considered a criminal by Earth standards, but by Terran standards, it is merely a pathing of life. You're either "good" and working/living within the bounds of the white system of law, you're skewed and bound to the gray areas, or you're "bad" and bound to the dark system of law. Adam is gray. And it has benefited him so much.
Lee, on the other hand, started out as a white system. It wasn't working for him, so he transitioned into gray. Easier done when you've got a gray friend in high places. Otherwise, there's forms and testing. And fees. And more testing. And more forms. And lines. And more fees. A picture ID. And more testing. Fingerprinting.
Donelle is a gray by marriage. Peeve, Poke, Puddlecub, Ping, and Peek are all alien to Terran, but accepted. Pennies is a half-fenine, so she's only half alien. And zombies unleashed to downtown Manhattan? Just another day.
Taking down half of the world's sophisticated top level domain servers in order to write your name on the uninhabited portion of the moon? An ambitious venture by one of the top ten "evil" people. Happens about once a year from someone. The forms alone to grant permission limit it to one a year.
So, that's my establishment on this world. Wanna help me contribute to it?
